“Hello, baby sister…” Tolu greeted, her tone cheerful.
“Hi, how are you?” Layo asked with a small smile.
Tolu tilted the phone slightly, grinning. “How’s your fair going, Scholar?”
“Not bad,” Layo replied, narrowing her eyes as she noticed something odd about her sister’s outfit. “Where are you?”
“At home, on my way out…” Tolu said nonchalantly.
Layo’s brows revealed instant disapproval. “On your way out? I’m not your mother, but I have a lot of problems with what you’re wearing.”
Tolu laughed, looking down at her off-shoulder top. “Relax! I’m just trying on a dress a friend got me. I’ll change into something more covered before Mum sees me.”
Layo shook her head. “A friend got you that?”
“Yes! What do you think?”
“That you’re never wearing that out,” Layo said, crossing her arms.
Tolu rolled her eyes dramatically. “Ugh, what do you know?” She paused, then her tone softened. “But seriously, how are you feeling?”
“I’m good, actually,” Layo replied, her voice steadier now.
“Good to know! Because having you act weird last week was not fun,” Tolu teased. “Whatever...or whoever...made you act like that, we don’t need them around. Clear?”
“Yep,” Layo muttered quickly, avoiding further questions.
Tolu grinned knowingly. “So, what about your bobo? Any updates?”
Layo gave a small, shy smile that she couldn’t hide.
“Oh my goodness! Look at that smile!” Tolu teased. “You really like this guy. I thought you said you broke up?”
“We did,” Layo replied quickly. “And no...he’s not my bobo. He’s back to being my friend. You said I was acting weird last week; it had a lot to do with me and him...and the thing that happened between us.”
Tolu gave her a pointed look. “Sure. If that makes you sleep better at night.”
Layo sighed, her tone turning serious. “But seriously, Tolu, do you think it’s okay to have these kinds of feelings at this age? And you..
my big sister is encouraging me?”
“Of course, it’s okay!” Tolu replied matter-of-factly. “They’re your feelings. Own them.”
“You’re really not a good influence on me,” Layo teased.
“And you’re the best influence on me,” Tolu shot back. “Anyway, I need to change before Mum gets back and flips the house upside down.”
“Thank God you know,” Layo replied with mock seriousness. “I hope you don’t tear the house down before I return on Sunday.”
Tolu pouted. “Likeee... I miss you already! 48 hours without you in this house feels like forever.”
Layo smirked. “Maybe you’ll appreciate me more if I tell Mum I want to be a boarder. I actually love the feeling.”
“If you dare…” Tolu warned, her eyes narrowing playfully.
They both laughed heartily before Tolu ended the call.

The loud ringing of a bell echoed through the hall. A Crestwood student stood with the bell, announcing the end of break.
“Break’s over,” the student called out.
Nina, still seated across from Jide, smiled with an edge of playfulness. “We need to pick this up later because we haven’t gotten to the fun part. I really want to hear about it...who asked who out? You or her?”
Jide chuckled, rising from his seat. “After the seminar…”
“Alright! See you then,” Nina said with a deliberate sweetness to her tone. “It was nice chatting with you. You’re so easy to talk to. I thought you were just all books and good looks, but now I’ll add one more...you’re super cool.”
Jide grinned, a bit embarrassed by her forwardness. He scratched the back of his head as if brushing off the compliment.
Just then, Amaka walked up, her voice cutting through the moment.
“Jide, have you seen Layo?”
Jide turned toward Amaka. “Hey, Amaka! Layo stepped out some minutes ago,” he said, then gestured at Nina. “This is Nina. Nina, meet Amaka.”
Amaka’s sharp eyes didn’t miss their hands loosely connected. Without hesitation, she stepped between them and broke the contact as though it was unintentional.
“Hi, Nina!” Amaka said briskly. Then, turning to Jide, she added, “We should go look for Layo.”
Nina raised an eyebrow but smiled as if amused.
“Later, Nina!” Jide called over his shoulder.
“Later, Jide,” Nina replied, her tone dripping with charm.
As Amaka and Jide walked away, Jide shook his head with a small laugh.
“Was that really necessary?” he asked, giving Amaka a pointed look.
Amaka didn’t flinch. “Yes, it was. Walking between you two? Very necessary.” Her voice turned serious. “Last I checked, you just broke up with my best friend, and
You agreed no dating … Remember, your speech in school, besides,
I don’t like these Robin High students. They give me the
creeps."
Jide raised a brow, now curious.
“One of them has Layo distracted all morning, another kept you occupied, and the third one tried to mess with me. It’s like they’re all working together to throw us off.” Amaka’s tone grew more determined. “I think they’re up to something, Jide. And we can’t lose focus. Crestwood has been winning this fair for years. We’re not going down in history as the set that ruined it.”
Jide nodded, her words sinking in. Suddenly, he spotted Layo walking back toward the auditorium.
“And there she is!” Jide said with relief.
Amaka and Jide hurried toward her.
“Where have you been?” Amaka asked, her voice laced with concern.
Layo sneezed softly. “By the basketball court... trying to clear my head.”
Jide stepped closer, studying her face. “Are you okay?”
Layo smiled faintly, her voice steady. “I’m fine... Let’s go in.”
