should we kiss 9

CHAPTER 9
"SHOULD WE KISS?"

The flashback still lingered in her mind, a vivid reminder of her connection with Jide and how quickly emotions could spiral out of control. She wiped her eyes, her trembling hands a sign of her inner turmoil.

“No more distractions, Layo,” she whispered to herself. “You’ve already learned your lesson not too long ago.” She said to herself trying to speak some sense to herself.

She bowed her head, clutching her hands together as though grounding herself.

“Layo… Are you okay?”

Layo turned to see Mrs. Helen, her Biology teacher, standing a few steps away, concern evident in her kind eyes.

“No, ma,” Layo admitted quietly, her voice trembling slightly. Mrs Helen was no stranger to her 'feelings story'. “Thank God you’re here. You’re just the person I need to see... I think I’m losing it again.”

Mrs. Helen stepped closer, her gaze softening with understanding. “What’s going on, Layo? You can talk to me. Is it you and Jide again?"

“It’s not Jide, ma,” Layo began, her words tumbling out quickly. “It’s... a boy from Robin High. The seduction is so high, and the temptation to kiss him is crazy. With what happened in the last two weeks, who would have thought I’d feel this way again so quickly? The urge is... overwhelming.”

Mrs. Helen gently placed a hand on Layo’s shoulder. “Calm down and breathe,” she said softly. “That you faced a temptation yesterday doesn’t mean you won’t face another today. Temptation doesn’t come once and leave forever. Even Jesus Christ faced three temptations in a row.”

Layo stared at her teacher, her words sinking in.

Mrs. Helen continued, her tone steady. “There are times when temptations will rush at you like waves, trying to break you. But if you refuse to bend or break, your temptation will eventually give up. The devil had to give up on Jesus after tempting Him three times in a row.”

Layo sighed, frustration evident in her voice. “Gosh! I can’t wait for this weekend to be over, and this boy returns to his school!”

“That’s not the way out,” Mrs. Helen countered gently. “Even when this weekend is over, there will be other situations... other cute guys. What matters is you being grounded in the face of any temptation that comes your way.”

Layo looked down, her voice barely audible. “Mrs. Helen, what I feel now is worse than two weeks ago. With Jide, it was pure... not until.... But with this guy from Robin High, it’s different—it’s lust. Intense, overwhelming lust. I just want to grab him and kiss him.”

“The devil increases the stakes every time, Layo. The more you resist, the harder he tries to get you to fall.” Mrs Helen replied

Layo swallowed hard, her voice cracking. “Okay, ma. But how do I stay grounded at a time like this? I feel like I’m losing the battle.”

Mrs. Helen smiled gently, her voice filled with encouragement...

“The truth shall set you free, Layo. Remind yourself of the truth you know. And that truth comes from the Word of God and your personal victory testimony. The Scripture says, ‘We overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony.’”

She continued, her tone firm yet comforting....

“When temptation feels overwhelming, stay close to your Bible. Remind yourself of the mistakes of the past and the consequences that followed. Think about what God says about this kind of temptation. Let those truths motivate you to resist. You’ve done it before, and you can do it again.”

Layo nodded slowly, her breathing more even now. “Thank you, Mrs. Helen. I’ll do that.”

Mrs. Helen gave her a reassuring smile.

“You’re stronger than you think, Layo. Trust God, and trust the wisdom He’s already given you. You’ve got this.”

As Mrs. Helen walked away, Layo stood still for a moment, her teacher’s words felt like a balm to her overwhelmed heart, grounding her in a way she hadn’t expected.
