CHAPTER 5
"SHOULD WE KISS?"

Zino stepped onto the stage with a confidence that seemed almost magnetic. Nina and Mira placed the mannequins there . Nina stayed back while Mira went to the back of the hall. The way Zino carried himself, coupled with his well-rehearsed charisma, instantly drew attention. His opening line, delivered with a smooth and suggestive tone, caused a ripple of murmurs through the auditorium. He began to touch the female mannequin in a highly suggestive way as he spoke, while Nina was touching the Male Mannequin as well...
"Physical contact isn’t just a biological necessity," Zino began, his voice dripping with charm and his hands circling the waist of the mannequin .
"Gestures…they’re connections. A kiss can heal" he said blowing a kiss towards Layo's direction.
" A touch can comfort, and both can ease stress."
The words hung in the air, captivating some of the girls in the room and unsettling others. Layo shifted in her seat, feeling a strange pull toward him. Her heart raced, and her hands instinctively brushed her lips as though she was physically reacting to his words.
"Why do I feel like he’s talking directly to me?" she wondered, her thoughts a jumble of confusion and fascination.
Amaka leaned closer to Jide, whispering with suspicion. "There’s something off about this guy…"
Jide, catching Layo’s nervous sneezing and distracted demeanor, leaned in with concern.
“Layo, are you okay? You’ve gone all quiet, and you’ve been sneezing a lot. You only sneeze like that when you’re nervous. So, what’s up?”
“I’m fine,” Layo replied quickly, but her voice wavered. “Just... something feels off.”
Before she could elaborate, the Head Judge stood abruptly, cutting Zino off mid-sentence.
“Thank you, Zino,” the Judge said firmly. “You can take your seat now. We appreciate the presentation, but it veered too far from the science.”
Zino chuckled, clearly unshaken by the critique, and descended the stage with an air of confidence that made him even more enigmatic.
The Head Judge turned her attention back to the audience. “Now, we have our final presentation for this morning from our host school...Crestwood College. Let’s welcome Layo, Jide, and Amaka to the stage.”
Layo felt her heart sink for a moment. The pressure of the expectations and the strange energy lingering from Zino’s presentation threatened to overwhelm her. But as she stepped onto the stage with Jide, she whispered a quick prayer under her breath.
"God, I’ve prepared so hard for this. Help me." Layo prayed
Amaka lingered at the back of the stage, silently praying as well, determined to intercede for her team.
Taking a deep breath, Layo began, her voice steady despite the tension.
“Our project focuses on the science of DNA exchange...not just on a biological level, but on a deeper level...how physical contact, especially something as intimate as a kiss, can create lasting bonds.”
Jide stepped forward to support her, his tone confident and clear. “We’ve learned that it’s not just DNA that’s exchanged in physical interactions. Emotional and spiritual ties are created through these acts.”
The audience leaned in, intrigued by the unique angle of their presentation.
“That’s why we believe in understanding what we’re really exchanging,” Layo continued, her voice gaining strength. “It’s more than just science...it’s about what we’re giving away of ourselves. Scientifically, when you kiss someone, even after an hour, traces of their DNA can still be found in your mouth.”
Mrs Helen; their Biology teacher couldn't be more proud of her students. She smiled proudly from where she stood at the back with other teachers who came with their students.
A curious student from Brighterstar Academy raised her hand, cutting through the silence. “So, does that mean kissing is dangerous?”
“It means kissing isn’t just a fleeting moment,” Layo explained. “It has consequences...biological, emotional, and even spiritual. So, it only makes sense to save it for the right person and the right time.”
From the audience, Nina scoffed loudly, her dismissive tone cutting through the atmosphere. “Why make such a big deal about what everyone will eventually do? Husbands and wives kiss, so why isn’t it destroying them? A kiss is not a death sentence. For me, if I love a guy, I’ll kiss him.”
Jide glanced at Layo, silently signaling her not to engage further. Layo caught his message and chose to remain silent, letting Nina’s words hang in the air.
Instead, she focused on the students who looked genuinely curious, knowing that their message had struck a chord with at least some of them.
As they wrapped up their presentation, the crowd’s mixed reactions didn’t deter Layo. She had done her part, and now, she left the rest in God’s hands.
