Nina's question about how far he had gone in the assignment took Zino back down memory lane.

*****
Two Weeks Earlier...

Inside Principal Harry's dimly lit office, Zino, Mira, and Nina stood before him, their postures tense yet determined, awaiting his orders.

Pictures of Layo, Amaka, Jide, and the entire layout of Crestwood School was plastered on one corner of his office wall. Principal Harry's eyes gleamed with evil intent as he stared at the images, his expression icy and calculating.

“Crestwood is the best school in this city,” he began, his voice low but laced with venom. “They win all the awards, take every trophy home, and all because of their so-called high morals. Their virtues make them academically superior, and this must change.” He looked each of them in the eye, his gaze chilling. “We will corrupt their foundation... their purity.”

Zino remembered how venomous Principal Harry's voice had sounded, so much that when he swallowed hard, he felt bitterness in his throat—whether coincidentally or as a result of the words.

“If we introduce immorality to their top students,” Harry continued, “it will spread like a virus. They’ll carry it back to their school, infecting the others.” He paused, his eyes narrowing. “Layo, Jide, Amaka... these are the ones you’ll target. Make them question everything they stand for. If they fall, the rest will follow.”

He reached behind him and brought out a dark concoction. With a devilish grin, he said to them. “Drink this. It will connect you to the power you need to carry out this mission.”

Mira accepted hers eagerly. “Crestwood won’t know what hit them,” she said confidently, taking a swig.

Zino remembered asking, “And if they don’t fall?” He wanted to know his fate.

Harry's eyes turned colder, his expression unyielding. “They will fall. Everyone has a weakness. If temptation doesn’t work, we’ll find another way.” His voice dropped to a chilling whisper. “Failure has consequences."

There was a brief silence, before he continued...

"Remember, you’re not going there to win the fair. You’re going there to destroy Crestwood.”

Zino nodded and took his own concoction. As he drank, the liquid burned his throat, filling him with a surge of dark energy, strengthening him.

" Arrgggg"

*****
Back in the present, Zino stared at Layo. He was determined to bring her down...there was no two ways about it.

Amaka also felt the stares, she could feel someone staring at her, she turned back to be sure.  She caught them staring at her and her friends.

Something about the trio sent a shiver down her spine.

“What’s with those three?” Amaka wondered aloud, trying to brush off the unsettling feeling. “They’re starting to look... creepy.”

As Amaka gave their creepiness more thoughts, Maplebridge College took the stage. Their team leader spoke with confidence, explaining the chemical reactions that occur in the brain during physical interactions.

“Our project examines the release of oxytocin, often called the ‘love hormone,’ during hugs and kisses,” the lead presenter explained. “This hormone creates bonds between individuals, strengthening their connection.”

Another student stepped forward, his voice enthusiastic. “We also looked into dopamine and serotonin—neurotransmitters linked to pleasure and happiness. Positive social interactions activate these chemicals, which contribute to a long, happy life.”

Layo, watching intently, turned to Amaka and Jide with a smile. “I love how they’re focusing on the positive impact of social interactions,” she said. “The presentations from these schools have been so enlightening.”

Amaka on the other hand was more interested in what  Robin High was going to present.

“I can’t wait to see what Robin High has to say. But I already know our project will be the icing on the cake.” she said

Jide leaned in, his eyes glancing towards the stage. “I think they’re up next.”

The three of them turned, their eyes tracking Zino as he took the stage.  Nina and Mira went to their booth and carried their Male and Female Mannequins .

Zino's stride was confident, and as he approached the stage, his gaze found Layo’s, locking onto her with an intensity that was hard to ignore.

Amaka noticed the charged atmosphere, nudging Layo gently. “Layo,” she whispered, “he’s looking right at you.”

Layo’s breath caught. She felt an involuntary shiver run through her as Zino's eyes bore into hers, an unspoken message in his stare that was both captivating and unnerving.

There was something odd about their presentation.

Unlike other schools whose presentations were projected on the screen, Nina and Mira brought the mannequins to the stage. The female mannequin was seductively dressed.

“What is happening?” Amaka murmured.." Who brings a seductively dressed Mannequin to a Biology fair?" Amaka said with unbelief laced in her voice.

Layo was no longer listening to her friends, she had been drawn into Zino's world. He was all she could see in that room. As he opened his mouth to speak, Layo couldn't help but noticed his peach coloured lips...
