CHAPTER 13
"SHOULD WE KISS?"

Layo was still seated on the field, her arms wrapped tightly around her knees. She continued to travel back to weeks earlier like Mrs Helen had advised. The flashbacks continued on its own.
Coincidentally, her thoughts travelled back to exactly what Jide had been sharing with Nina. The point where it literally started... Just after Mrs Lydia had used them as her examples...

She remembered slumping deeper into her seat, hiding her face behind her notebook as though that could shield her from the teasing.
Amaka leaned closer, her teasing smile unmistakable. She nudged Layo playfully with her elbow.
“Well, I must say, Mrs. Lydia’s example was... quite fitting,” Amaka said, her voice low and mischievous.
Layo shot her a glare... “Ah-ah! Very funny,” she muttered, rolling her eyes in mock irritation.
Amaka’s smile widened, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “If you ask me, I’d say this is a good thing.”
“A good thing?” Layo’s tone was skeptical. She dropped her notebook onto the desk... “It’s embarrassing enough that I got called out in class, and now Mrs. Lydia made an example of me and Jide?”
Amaka leaned in even closer, dropping her voice into an exaggerated whisper. “Exactly. You and your crush were used in a romantic scenario. That’s fate, my dear.”
“Romantic what? Please stop,” Layo said, shaking her head in exasperation.
Amaka giggled, clearly enjoying the moment far too much. “Look, you should be thanking Mrs. Lydia,” she continued conspiratorially. “Jide’s seeing you in a whole new light now.”
Despite herself, Curiosity got the better of her, and she sneaked a glance in Jide’s direction. Sure enough, he was watching her. His lips curled into a playful half smile, and her heart gave an involuntary skip. She quickly turned back to her notebook, embarrassed.

BACK TO PRESENT
At the Same time in the Auditorium, Jide was feeding Nina exactly what she wanted.
“The sparks were there,” he admitted, his voice tinged with fondness. “Everything seemed to be pulling us together. But, funny enough, Mrs Lydia's example kind of made her withdraw from me. You know how some girls act...when they like a boy, they sort of pull back.”
Nina raised a brow, leaning forward with intrigue. Her eyes sparkled as she flashed him a knowing smile.
“Well, not all girls are like that,” she said, her voice soft and deliberate, dripping with seduction.
“Audacious girls like me go for what we want. In the past, I never really saw what I wanted... but that’s about to change.”
She let her words linger intentionally...her intent clear.
Then, as if to lighten the mood, she flashed a sly smile.
“But we’re not talking about me now,” Nina said, her tone smooth and teasing. “Let’s talk more about you. How did you move from the crush zone? Or did you never get past there? After all, that teacher practically handed you a golden opportunity on a platter. Smart guys would have used it as an entry point.”
Jide smiled. He had to prove to her he is a smart guy.
“Well, it wasn’t long before circumstances pulled us together again,” he replied, his voice holding a hint of pride. “And this time, I was pretty smart about it.”
Nina laughed lightly...
“Oh Really! Tell me your smart moves” she teased, watching him carefully.
Jide leaned back slightly, his smile softening as he met Nina’s gaze. She wasn’t just making small talk...there was an edge to her words, a deliberate strategy behind her flirtation... He could sense it.
Nina knew exactly what she was doing. With each question and every shared laugh, she was slowly pressing deeper, pulling Jide further into the lust laced conversation. The door to his heart had cracked open, and she was determined to step inside.
