My reverend's son 4

PART 4
"MY REVEREND'S SON"

I found myself walking away from my duty post and dialing Rayo's number. She picked up in a rush...

" Hello Rayo! What kind of message is this on the first of January, What nonsense prank are you and my brother up to..." These and more were the words I wanted to spill out on Rayo, but her wailing and crying the moment she picked up, told me this was no prank. I could hear voices of young people shouting in the background...

" Janet...Come...Henry is dying" Rayo said

" What happened?" I asked shaking

" Your Pastor's son ...stabbed him?"

" Which Pastor's son? Are you talking about Ademide?"  I asked still not getting the connection. My Twin brother; Henry was not a member of my church, infact he was not born again. While I spent my crossover in church , he spent his at a club. Ademide, though not in church was not someone who will spend crossover  at a club...

" I am on my way...Move him to the nearest hospital to that place" I said to the senseless Rayo who did not know that taking my brother to the nearest hospital was the next thing to do before calling me like a baby.

Thankfully, everywhere was still lively that midnight, since it was Crossover. I ordered a ride, something I would never do a normal day; Where was the money to waste on taxis?

*******
" He is dead!" Rayo said on sighting me. I walked into the now deserted  club to meet Rayo hovering over my twin brother and a few men who looked like the staff of the Club ..

" Rayo what happened to Henry? What happened to my brother?"  I screamed

" Your...Your...Pastor's son..." Rayo was saying and I cut it...

" Shut up and stop saying my Pastor's son. What has my Reverend's son got to do with this?"

" Everything, he stabbed your brother" One of the men hanging around Said ..

" Can someone please make this make sense to me?"

******
My name is Rayo and I want to tell you what happened that night...

I was with the love of my life. Though we were young , we knew we loved each other and we were going to spend forever together. Don't Judge us by the fact that we were going to the club on the 31st of December, we had good reasons. Blame our backgrounds.
We had worked our hands and brains out during the year. We were contract workers at a popular hair factory. We would work all day standing on our feet for long hours, so spending our evenings at the club was relaxation for us. Therefore, spending the crossover at the club was our own way of enjoying ourselves into the new year because by the 2nd of January, the factory was going to kickstart work and only the fast ones to resume would get employed...

Our hustle was to make ends meet for our families. Henry was a sweet soul, though not as religious as his twin Sister, he cared about everyone especially their mother.

That night we had gone to the River club to unwind. We chose River Club because it was for the elite. It was our second time there. The drinks there were usually very expensive .  As I danced my heart out,  I saw the Reverend's son walk into the club with two other rich kids.

I noticed he was unapologetically staring at me. It was so obvious, Henry asked us to go to another corner.  The Reverend's son obviously was high on something, because he walked up to us and told Henry to let him have me...

" Guy let me have her" He said with no respect

To be honest, Henry was respectful enough to smile and say...

" My Sister's Reverend 's son, this is my wife not just any random babe"

" Don't bring my Father's name here!"

" Sorry sir!" Henry said laughing

" How much for the babe?" The Reverend's Son asked and that got Henry mad...

" Are you deaf? She is my babe. Move..."

" I heard you, I am not deaf, She is your babe, but I want her for tonight, I will pay you any amount. You are broke brother, give me your babe and I will give you what can sustain you for a month"

Henry moved me aside and pushed the Reverend's son in anger.

" Are you high on something Daddy's boy? You think you can just throw money around. Can you imagine this guy and to think my sister is tripping for this fool! Guy! you are so babyish! You better go back to your mama's cot, that's where you belong. Go back to Church, you Church boy" Henry had said madly.

The other two rich kids began to instigate the Reverend's son to beat up Henry.

It happened like a flash, no one saw it coming, including his rich friends. He picked up one of the expensive drinks they had bought and slammed it against the table and before anyone could say anything, he rushed towards Henry stabbing him in the stomach...

The Club went quiet like a cemetery and just like you would expect in a typical Nigerian gathering when"kasala burst" ( Problem happens) everyone took to their heels. One of his friends pull him out of the club in a rush and they drove off...Unlike the others who were at the River club, we didn't have a car to rush him to the nearest hospital, plus we knew we didn't have the money to pay for any hospital around that area . I was confused, I wasn't thinking well. The Club owners started pressurizing me to carry him from the club or call a relative. I pleaded with them to use one of the club cars to carry Henry to the clinic, but they were afraid of him dying in their car...

We were two poor kids without anyone to help...
