Shades of Marriage đ„°đđđ„șđ Part 11&12
I sat at the edge of the bed with my phone on my hand. Right in the screen of my phone was Austinâs number. Each time I want to click on the dial icon, my thumb will become too heavy for me to move.
I placed my left hand on my tummy and tenderly caressed it.
âDarling, everything will be okay. Thank you for coming to mummyâ. I said soothingly.
I summoned all the courage I had left and dialed Austinâs number.
With each beep from the phone, the rate at which my heart beat, increases simultaneously.
Voila!! He finally picked the call. My heart stopped beating for a moment.
âHelloâ. Austin said from the other end of the call.
I didnât realize how much I have missed him until I heard his voice. âOh.. I have missed him so muchâ.
âHellooo! Can you hear meâ. Austin repeated.
I jerked back from my fantasies.
âGood⊠eveningâ. I stuttered.
âGood evening. You finally calledâ. Austin said.
âOh wow, you have been waiting for me to call you right?â. I said angrily.
âThatâs not what I meant. According to the lyrics of a song, you only know your lover when you let them go. I want you badly. I donât know how else to make you understand my true intentions. I donât want to force you into loving me or being with me. I want it to happen naturallyâ. Austin said.
âDo you even know why I called? Why are you so certain about why I called?â. I queried.
âI know you Lizbeth. With a personality like yours, there is no way you will call me if itâs not to talk about something important. So tell me, why did you callâ. Austin said.
âI amâŠ. Carrying.. in fact, nevermindâ. I stopped halfway.
âBaby whatâs the issue. You know you can talk to me about anything right?â. Austin urged.
âI donât even know how to say itâ. I said.
âJust say it anyhow, I will understandâ. Austin insisted.
âI am carrying your baby Austinâ. I finally dropped the bombshell.
I removed my phone from my ear for a moment. I was scared of his reaction.
âWhat if he isnât ready for a baby?â. I wondered.
âElizabeth!â. I heard Austin say from the other end of the call. I quickly placed the phone back on my right ear.
âI can.. hear you â. I stammered.
âAre you serious? Are you truly pregnant for me?â. Austin asked excitedly.
âI am very serious. I just found outâ. I replied.
âOh my goodness! I canât believe this. This is too good to be true. Do you mean my baby is carrying my baby?â. Austin asked triumphantly.
I could feel the excitement from his voice.
âYes sir â. I replied with a big smile on my face.
âThank you babe. Thank you sweetie. Thank you my wife. Thank you mummy â. Austin went on and on.
âAre you that happy?â. I teased.
âHappy? Using the word happy in this is context is an understatement. I am over the moon babe. If not for work, you would have seen me in your house first thing tomorrow. I canât travel till weekend. Hope you can manage alone till then?â. Austin asked.
âI will be fineâ. I said.
âPlease donât do any strenuous activities for now â. Austin pleaded.
âOkay sir â. I replied laughing.
âI am not joking o. Letâs talk later okay. Please always be with your phone because I will be calling more often. Once again, thank you baby. I love you so much â. Austin said and ended the call.
âThank you Jesus! Thank you Jesus! Thank you Jesus!â. I said repeatedly.
I was so scared of going through this pregnancy alone. Thank goodness Austin wants the baby as much as I do.
True to his words, Austin called at least once in every 3hrs to check up on me. It got to the point that Faith was always teasing me whenever my phone rings.
âI am happy for you babeâ. Faith said beaming with smiles.
âI know right! I am happy for myselfâ.
Weekend finally came and Austin travelled down to meet me in Faithâs house.
He was received warmly by both Faith and her husband.
âFinally met the almighty Austin who wants to steal my friend away from meâ. Faith teased.
âI finally met the Kind Faith that has shown my baby so much love and care. Thank you so much for all what you have been doing for Elizabethâ. Austin said appreciatively.
âWhat have you been telling him oâ Faith asked me with smiles.
âI told him about your wickedness â. I said and we all burst out laughing.
Food was served and drinks were poured.
We were still chatting in the living room when Austin came to where I was seated and knelt in front of me.
This came as a pleasant surprise to everyone gathered.
He brought out a ring and said;
âWhen I lost my fiancee years ago, I told myself I was incapable of falling in love again. Women never looked appealing to me. I closed my mind from love. I met you in the most unappealing manner but my heart started beating in an unusual rhythm all of a sudden. Finding out you were married then, I tried to erase the thought of you from my head but the more I tried, the more excited I got. The past months we spent apart were the toughest moments of my life. It was even tougher than when I lost my fiancee. Long story short, Elizabeth, I donât want to ever go a day without speaking to you. I donât want to sleep on a bed that you are not sleeping on. I donât want to eat any food that wasnât prepared by you or for us. Baby, I want us to be one for life. Please be my wifeâ.
At this point, I have already drenched my pink satin blouse with my tears

âWill you marry me Elizabeth?â. Austin reiterated.
I was just shedding tears uncontrollably.
âWhy are you crying na? Say yes pleaseâ. Faith urged.
I brought my left hand forward and used my right palms to cover my mouth while I was still sobbing.
âYES. I will marry you â. I said.
Austin gently placed the diamond đ on my finger. He stood up and wrapped me around his arms.
âThank you babyâ. Austin said happily.
As the drama queen that she is, Faith went to the wine cellar and brought a champagne. She popped it which made a very loud noise.
She poured it and we all cheered happily as we drank.
With the help of both Faith and her husband, along side with Austin, I was able to move into the apartment Austin rented for me months back. I couldnât thank Faith enough for being a true friend to me.
Austin had to stay with me for a while.
I was glad he did because of how well he treated me. He didnât allow me cook nor clean, even when I insisted I was still strong enough to do those things he wouldnât listen. I sha enjoyed the baby girlâs treatment.
âBabe, what about your ex husband, how are we going to go about him?â. Austin asked one afternoon after we had lunch.
âThatâs true! Let me call himâ. I said and brought out my phone.
âHelloâ. I said as coldly as I could sound.
âBabim⊠I have missed youâ. My ex husband said with all smiles.
âPlease stop calling me that. I called to inform you that I want to return the bride price you paid on meâ. I said.
âWho said you can return it? See this woman o, you are my wife for lifeâ. He said boastfully.
âBaby please give me the phone let me speak to him â. Austin said boiling with anger.
I had no choice but to hand the phone over to Austin.
âHello! Iâm Austin, Elizabethâs FianceâŠâ.
Before he could finish speaking, my ex husband rudely interrupted him.
âJust be fooling yourself. I know you have been fu*king her even when she was still under my roof⊠You think I didnât know right? I will never collect the bride price back â.
âWell, I canât be wasting myself exchanging words with you. Go to the nearest customary court to get back the bride price you paid on her whenever you are ready â. Austin said.
âLook at this man making mouth over my remnant â. He started laughing.
I was just boiling. âThis man is actually so disgusting. I canât believe I was once in love with himâ.
âSo, do you know she canât even have children? I guess you donât know she is barren. She is a man like youâ. My ex husband said disdainfully.
I just shook my head with pity. I placed my hands on tummy with big smiles on my face. I couldnât be happier for being pregnant.
âWell, I think you are the impotent one hereâ. Austin fired back.
âHow can I be impotent when a woman is already carrying my baby?â. My ex said and burst out laughing.
I was shocked to my bone marrow. Austin gave me a glance and we simultaneously shook our heads.
âWell, Elizabeth is also carrying my baby. I would advise you run a DNA test on that baby when he or she is born. Iâm not hating, Iâm only advising you man to manâ. Austin said and ended the call.
Austin came to where I was seated and placed my both hands on his and said;
âAll will be well baby. I canât imagine what you had to go through in his handsâ.
âI thank God for everything â. I said.
âNext week, we will be going to see my parents. I want us to get married as soon as possible before the baby bumps start showing â. Austin said.
The thought of meeting his parents sent chills all over my body. I havenât gotten over the ill treatments I received from my ex husbands family from the first time I met them till the end of the marriage.
âDo you think they will like me?â. I asked.
âThey have no choice than to like you. You are Austinâs womanâ. He said smiling.
That gave me a little bit of courage.
