Episode 23&24

I woke up in the morning and also did the usuals. I decided that I’ll stay indoors till the day of trials come.

It’s been two days now, and it’s just remaining a day for the trial.

I woke up that particular morning, said my prayers, took my bath, wore something presentable, had breakfast and went the station.

On my arrival, I saw Nelly’s father, speaking with his wife, well maybe he came to see her for the last time, before she enjoys her vacation in jail. It wasn’t my business so I went to do what brought me here.

I saw the way the looked at me when I walked pass them. In the corner of my eyes, I could see Nelly’s father, trying to summon up courage to speak with me. But Sha that one is not my business, I’m the master of the game now.

I walked to the counter, greeted the police officers I saw, and told them I came to see the IGP for something very important.

One of them contacted the IGP and soon, I was seated in his office. I greeted him, and he responded friendly.

He asked me if there’s any problem, because he wasn’t expecting me today, but tomorrow in the court.

I told him there’s no problem, that I’m here to drop the charges against Nelly and her mother.
He smiled and shook my hand.

He told me he knew that I’ll drop charges, that I was only teaching them a lesson.

I asked him how he knew, and he told me he knows a kind hearted person when he sees one.

After he had finished speaking, he carried his phone, which was already on the table, to make a call. He called one of his officers and instruct him to bring in Nelly and her mother to his office.

In less than five minutes, Nelly and her mother were brought in. The IGP requested her dad should be present. So he was brought in.

The IGP told them I had something to say, that’s why the were being summoned here. He gave me the go ahead to speak.

I turned and looked at Nelly, her face was swollen and she looked tattered. I looked at her mum, she was looking like Nelly too. I looked at her father, I could see apologies in his eyes.

I’m dropping all charges against the both of you, I said, and they ran to where I sat and knelt before me.

That’ll be all sir, I said, to the IGP and he nodded before I took my leave.

Many of you will say I did the wrong thing, why I’m allowing them to still kneel there, I don’t stand with evil, I don’t stand with people who make drastic decisions, not minding if it’ll hurt others or not.

I left the station and went back home. I unlocked my door and went inside. I changed into something casual, took my laptop and went and sat down outside.

I began working on a script for a client who had been on my neck for weeks now, when my landlady walked towards me.

Oga writer abeg I wan see you, she said.

Any problem ma, I asked.

Yes oh, the is fire on the mountain, she said.

Episode 24

My eyes opened fiam, the moment she said that I was responsible.

With due respect ma, I am not responsible for Esther’s pregnancy, I said, not knowing weather I was denying or defending myself.

It’s Alright, we shall see, she said and left.

The moment she left, I began panicking. Shey the helmet bust ni, abi na my head no fit understand. I’m not responsible, I said to myself and pushed the thoughts out from my head.

It wasn’t even up to an hour after Esther’s mother and I had a conversation, when I saw her again, coming towards me, but this time, with an envelope in her hand.

She got to where I was seated, stretched out the envelope to me and I collected it. She didn’t even speak after I collected the envelope, she only turned and left.

I opened the envelope and saw that it was a letter from the court, informing me that I have to stand a trial on Monday by 8am.

My heart skipped. So Las Las Indaboski has finally put me into trouble.

I sighed to myself and took the letter inside. I was laying on my bed, when Esther call came in. I picked it up immediately and put it on loud speaker.

Hello dear, she said, in a happy voice.

Esther, I said. Nelly didn’t succeed, and I’m telling you, you won’t succeed either, I added, before ending the call.

She called back several times which got me angry and I blocked her number.

The next morning was Sunday, so I prepared very early and went for service. I knew the only way to win this case, was to leave everything to God. I know I have wronged him, but he’ll always forgive me.

This particular Sunday was way different from all other Sundays. I prayed and prayed, like I was expecting 300million naira from God. But why won’t I pray like that, now that I have to stand trial the next day, not even with a lawyer just alone.

I left service that day, and went back home, feeling in my spirit that my prayers has been answered.

When I got home,I stayed indoors till the next day.

The next day, which was Monday, I woke up very early, I prayed vehemently, brush, took my bathe, had a very sumptuous meal, got dressed and went outside and sat down.

I saw Esther and her parent, also preparing. Today is going to be eat against Indaboski.

It wasn’t long after that, when a black Benz pack infront of their house.

They hurried up and got into the car. The driver beckoned on me to come and I did. I got to the car, and saw the front seat was vacant. Without much thought, I got in and sat down.

The drive to the court wasn’t that long, twas a thirty minutes drive. We got to the court and driver switched off the car engine and told us to get down and follow him, which we did.

He took us straight into the court, showed Esther and he parent where to sit. He was about showing me where to sit, when he looked at me in a weird way, and asked me about my lawyer. I told him that I didn’t have one, that I’m innocent, and that’s all that matters.

He smiled and showed me where to sit, which was beside Esther and her parents, but not that close.

There’s something I noticed about Esther’s father, ever since from the house, he never spoke nor showed any sign of anger. Well I fear quiet people honestly, they can kill you, and chop off your head, while just staring at you.

My eyes and Esther’s met, I smiled and she smiled back. See werey, me that God got my back, she that lies got her back we’ll see.

Soon the judge enter into the court, and we all stood up.

We sat, when he had sat down. Some introduction was made, and soon I was called to stand trail session.
