Once upon a time 35

PART 35
" ONCE UPON A TIME "
©️Opeyemi Akintunde.

Kemi flagged down a taxi...

"Où allez-vous" The cab man asked...( Where are you going?)

Kemi knew that was french but she knew nothing in that language...

" Police Station near here!" Kemi said using her hand to signal that she needed one close by. She knew anyone would understand that...

" Me Visitor!" She said trying to communicate using few words anyone could catch the meaning.

" Ok!"

The driver told her the fare which she didn't have. She still had some dollars in her purse. She knew he would take it...No one refused dollar notes, or better still give him the Nigerian Naira but times three of his fare as a way of bribing him.

She settled in to the back seat.

" Visitor, Any problem?" The cab man said looking at Kemi from the inner mirror as he drove

" You speak English?" Kemi asked surprised and relieved she won't have problem communicating with the cab driver...

" Yes, Fluently as a matter of fact!"

" I have an issue! Can I bother you with it!" Kemi asked

" Yes Madame..."

" Ok...So I am Nigerian and somehow my path crossed the path of this innocent girl who plans on taking her life because she feels she is cursed. Unfortunately for her, she is a maid and has this agent I don't trust...." Kemi told the Cab man the full story, mentioning everyone involved in this case.

" So you came with her to Cotonou to ensure she is not used for rituals?" The driver asked sounding very amused..

" Yes! Crazy right?"

" Yeah, but the word I wanted to use is Humanitarian...Shows you are a good person"

" Don't be too sure!"

The driver looked at the woman sitting behind...

" What did she mean by that? Is she also after the girl for reasons she has not shared?" The driver reasoned...

He needed to make this trip longer. He made a detour at the next left turn hoping to get 15 minutes more with the woman before dropping  her off at the police station...

" Am I missing something?" He asked

" What?" Kemi asked looking lost

" Your statement about me not being too sure of who you are!"

" Oh that! Well what I mean is, I am not proud of what I have done to girls her age in the past, so me trying to help is just a way of getting guilt out of my heart. I am not this jobless to travel miles to help a girl I don't know from anywhere!"

" Sometimes, God directs our path so we can be of help to others. Your helping her may be God using you to deliver her. Sometimes, God stirs people up to do certain things and after they are done with that assignment,  they begin to ask themselves..."Why did I do that?" The truth is, it was the Lord that stirred them up to do those things. It Shows that you are a great weapon in the hand of the Lord, but your agreement to go with them to a herbalist is what doesn't sit well with me..." Kennedy the driver said hoping God had just spoken to his passenger through his unworthy lips...

" You are a preacher?" Kemi asked after a brief silence

" No, but I can be one to you if you want more information about God and Christianity."

" Why do some kids lose their parents at a young age and they are left to care for themselves..?"

" Because, such parents may have concluded their time on earth..." Kennedy replied

" But they didn't complete their work of raising the children!"

" You think they didn't! But in actual fact if God wanted them to stay an extra day on earth, nothing would have stopped it. "

Kemi travelled back memory lane, she had lost both parents at the age of 8.

" I lost my parents at 8 years old"

" And see how far you have come without them!" Kennedy said

" Before getting to this point, Life threw onions at me..." Kemi replied

" But you made a great meal out of the onions thrown at you..." Kennedy replied trying as much as possible to bring out positivity out of her negativity recounts.

" I did all sorts, I hawked my life out. I became very creative, mostly in a bad way  just to make ends meet." Kemi said

" Those were challenges that made you stronger.." Kennedy replied

" Yeah, but I am broken... I am like a broken cup"

" Jesus can pick up your pieces and fix you up, so that through you he can give himself to many others to drink from..."

Followed was few minutes of Silence... Kennedy in his silence was  communicating with the Holy Spirit and asking that He touch the soul of this woman... He was a cab man by profession but his Ministry was to drive as many souls to their right destination; Heaven.
