Bury my sins 20

CHAPTER 20
TITLE: "BURY MY SINS,NOT ME"

(FLASHBACK - 10 MONTHS AGO)

Officer Abimbola looked really tired after a long day at work. She went outside and checked the parking lot until she saw Officer Paul's car in a corner. She then walked over to meet him.

Abimbola leaned against his car and said, "Hey Paul, I was thinking if we could do something a little more private today... like grabbing dinner together at my place. What do you think?”

Officer Paul quickly leaned in, showing his excitement about the dinner plan. "Great idea my love," he said, smiling and feeling a flutter in his chest. "Do you mind if I go home to change first and pick something nice for tonight before coming over?" Paul asked.

"Okay," Abimbola replied confidently. "I'll see you at my place tonight. I'm certain you'll enjoy what I have in store for dinner." With that, she turned to leave.

"Come on now, Abimbola," Officer Paul called her back. "Are you just going to leave like that? No kiss, peck, or hug?" he said, frowning.

Abimbola smiled and turned to look at him, asking, "What am I wearing, Paul? This is a police uniform, for Christ's sake. You want me to hug and kiss you in front of the station with our superintendent still around? If you don't like this job anymore, I still do, and you're not going to implicate me even with your frowning baby face," Abimbola said firmly.

"Okay, come inside then," Paul told Abimbola as he opened the car door for her. "Let me drop you off at home."

"Come inside which car, with you Paul? You are a b*ad boy, and I know this is one of your tricks. Whatever you want to do, let it wait until dinner at my place tonight. Besides, I am not going home directly from here; I need to stop by the market first and grab one or two ingredients for dinner," Abimbola said playfully.

"Okay... okay, fine," Paul said. "See you later, my love."

Abimbola and Paul had been dating for months, unable to resist spending every minute together.

They work as colleagues, both police officers, exchanging stares and smiles even during high-profile case briefings. Despite their closeness, they ensure their relationship never interferes with their work.

—----------------------------

Abimbola was walking home from the market along a quiet path, her mind occupied with the day's events, when she suddenly heard a loud cry of p*ain coming from a nearby unfinished building.

Her instincts kicked in, and she became alert at once. She immediately reached for her g*u–n with her mind racing.

Cautiously, she approached the scene slowly, dropping everything she had bought from the market. She moved slowly, keeping low and hidden by the bush path as she neared the uncompleted building where the noise aired from.

Abimbola saw one of the b*ad guys standing by the uncompleted building. The man slid his hand into his jacket, like he was hiding a g*u–n underneath, and he kept watch around, making sure no one was coming near.

Abimbola figured there might be more people involved and she might need backup, so she carefully took out her phone and hid behind a nearby bush.

She dialed Officer Paul's number and whispered silently, "Paul, I need your help. I'm by the unfinished building near my house. Something's up, and I might need backup. Can you come quickly and inform our team?"

Paul's voice was calm as he replied, "I'm on my way. Stay safe, Abimbola. And please, do not step inside until the team arrives." He warns her.

“Okay Paul.” Abimbola hung up and kept her eyes on the building, ready for Paul to show up with reinforcements.

Suddenly, another loud cry of p*ai’n came from the building, and Officer Abimbola knew she had to act fast. She couldn't wait any longer for backup, as more lives might be in d*a-n’ger before the team arrived. She gripped her g”u–n firmly, ready to intervene.

Abimbola took a deep breath and focused on the guy standing in front of the door. Her g*u–n was stretched out in front of her, ready to be used if necessary. She moved slowly, waiting for the perfect moment to s*tri-ke the guard.

She quietly approached the guard and s*tru-ck him on the head with her g*u–n, causing him to lose consciousness. She scanned the area swiftly to ensure no one witnessed the takedown. Because It was crucial she didn't s”ho-ot the g*u–n now to avoid drawing other's attention to herself.

Abimbola stepped into the building, gripping her g*u–n tightly. She spotted Pastor Solomon in the room, who is already done with the r*itu*al of buying life for his own daughter as instructed by the herbalist.

Abimbola's eyes scanned the area and then she noticed two girls lying l*ife–lessly on the floor in pools of their own b*lo–od. She pondered that if she had intervened earlier, perhaps the helpless girls might still be alive.

“You are under arrest,” Abimbola said, aiming her g*u–n at Pastor Solomon and commanding him to surrender.

Pastor Solomon immediately raised his hands up, trembling in fear and shouting, “Jesus,” never imagining a prominent pastor like him would be caught in a cri*me scene.

But unknown to Abimbola, one of Pastor Solomon's men was behind her, and the man snuck up and knocked Abimbola's g*u–n away from her.

A struggle and exchange of b*lows ensued between Pastor Solomon's men and Officer Abimbola. Despite Abimbola's attempts to defend herself, she was overpowered by the a*ssa-ilants.

They s*h-ot her t*wice, leaving her in a po-ol of her own b*lo-od. The men then fled with Pastor Solomon in a car, leaving Abimbola in a cr*it-ical condition.

When Officer Paul arrived at the scene, his heart sank seeing Abimbola motionless on the ground. He rushed to her side, calling out her name, but she didn't respond. He shook her gently but she remained unresponsive, causing Paul to break down in tears and overwhelmed with grief.

Meanwhile, one of the bad guys Abimbola hit earlier before stepping inside regained consciousness and heard Officer Paul's cries inside the building.

The b*ad guy slowly approached Paul from behind, holding a stick. With a swift blow, he s*truck Paul, who was grieving Abimbola's d*eath, on the head, knocking him down too.

Subsequently, the b*ad guy carried Abimbola's body away, d*ispo–sing it near a river, intending to return and completely h*ar-m Paul later.

But on his way back after d*ispo-sing off Abimbola, he noticed that the rest of the police team had arrived in response to Paul's earlier distress call. So he fled the surrounding area, trying not to get captured.

(AT THE ANGLICAN CHURCH OF GOD)

Pastor Solomon rushed into his church office, still shaken by the events earlier at the uncompleted building.

He immediately called one of his associates and ordered him to a*cce-ss n*ea-rby CCTV foot–age and dele–te any evidence implicating them and their earlier actions at the building since the police were on their tail now.

The associate complied, But after clearing the foot–age, he sent a copy of the deleted files to Pastor Solomon's laptop, and then messaged Solomon via WhatsApp that he sent him the foot–age file for him to see on his laptop.

Pastor Solomon was preaching on the altar when his phone buzzed with the incoming message from WhatsApp, and it popped up on his phone screen. He glanced down and saw the text, his eyes widening in shock.

His heart began to race immediately, and he suddenly slumped forward, collapsing onto the altar from a fatal heart attack that evening and dying in church.

The associate who sent the foot–age had unknowingly sealed Pastor Solomon's fate, but he was not aware it was what led to the pastor's heart attack. He only sent him a copy to see, and it prompted fear in Pastor Solomon which led to his death while he was preaching.

In Pastor Solomon's final moments, while he's still struggling to breathe, he couldn't understand why his as*sociate would send him evidence of their crimes to his laptop instead of deleting them all. He never got the chance to get to the laptop and delete them too because he died before he could reach it.

This is why his ghost had been hovering around the church and desperately seeking someone to help him get rid of the laptop. He didn't want just his physical body buried alone; he also wanted his sins buried too.

To be continued.,.....
