“Mommy, I have gist for you!”.

“No, me I have gist for you! My gist is more spectacular!”. Her mother cried out.

“No, mum. Mine is more Jorovastic”. She said humorously.

Her mother rolled her eyes. “So after all your masters degree, they did not teach you how to speak good English?”.

They burst into laughter.

“I met someone that looks so much like your husband at the hospital”.

Naomi gasped. “Again?”.

“My darling, the resemblance is striking but he is a drug addict”.

“Can I meet him mother? You know, he might be my husband since I am yet to see Tyler’s remains. My husband might be alive somewhere”.

“Stop it Naomi! I did not tell you this for you to hallucinate again! I am telling you this because I wanted to share my views with you”.

“Can I meet him mother?”.

“You cannot meet him! What is the good news you wanted to share with me?”.

“My boss wants me to travel with him to the states for two months”.

“You? All the workers?”.

“No. Only me”.

She gasped. “Your boss is in love with you”.

“No. It feels more like he is suspicious of me”.

“When are you going?”.

“Next week”.

“How can you travel alone with a woman when you have a pregnant girlfriend right here at home?This cannot happen! Never!”. Martha fired at him after he informed them during dinner.

“Pregnancy should not be a barrier to a man marrying the woman he loves! I had a child before I married you! If I had such mentality, you wouldn’t have been here!”. Collins Morgan fired back at her.

“You want to make a whole Vanessa Rosales a single mother? How can you even say that?”.

“I am only going on a business trip with my worker. Nothing more. What’s with the panic?”. He asked his mother.

“Two months is a long one”.

“Two months on a business trip is a long one? Are you kidding me?”.

“I trust my child. He will always make the right decision”.

“You never trusted him for so long. Now you trust him?”.

“Why not? I trust intelligent people. Thank God he took none of his mother’s foolish trait”.

Raymond ate in silence.

He had a plan and that was to stop his heavy heart beat that he often feels anytime he sees Naomi and he wanted to find out what he truly feels for her.

It felt so awkward travelling out of the country for the first time in her life.

She had spent her honeymoon with Tyler in Calabar but she had never seen foreign countries except Tyler who had travelled out of the country several times even before they were married for business trips.

They finally got to the states and one of the managers of Cornell branch in the states came to the airport and drove them to a mansion.

“My father built this place. It is our family house”. He told her

She gasped as she observed the place. It was so beautiful and cold.

Freezing.

“Your room is over there”. He pointed to a room behind the staircase and she rushed in.

It was painted brown. Deep brown.

It had mirror and bed with four wardrobes.

She sat on the soft bed and began to think about the two months that she was going to spend here.

“I just hope my stay in the United States will be worth staying away from my mother for two full months”. She dialled her mother on video call.

The woman connected the call immediately and grinned excitedly at her. “My baby has reached the states finally!!!”. She clapped excitedly. “It is still afternoon over here. This is 2:20pm. What time is it over there?”.

“7:20pm mum”.

“Thank God for the safe journey. So, tell me. Are you lodging?”.

“I am living in a mansion right now mum. Mum, the Corncells are so rich! You need to see how big this house is”.

She heard a knock at the door.

“It seem he wants to see me mum. I will talk to you later”. She disconnected the line and walked to answer the door.

It was a maid. “Your food is freshly made, miss. The boss informed me to call you to eat with him”.

Naomi was directed by the maid to the dining table.

She gasped when she saw what had been served on the dining table.

Freshly made Irish potatoes and sauce.

That was Tyler’s favourite.

She observed him closely as she stared at the meal. “Why are we served this?”. It felt so traumatic for her.

“You don’t like it? This is my favourite meal. You are supposed to like it”.

“Your favourite meal? How can this be your favourite meal? That was my husband’s favourite meal!”.

“…and how is that my business?”.

“You not only look like him…your favourite meal was his too. I don’t have appetite. Goodnight”.

She walked into the room.

She had woken up from the heavy pang in her belly that had troubled her in her sleep.

She was so hungry.

It was just two a.m and it was freezing.

She rushed out of the room and sneaked into the kitchen.

She opened the fridge and brought out bread and Jam.

She spread the jam on the bread with a small knife and began to eat.

She was already eaten the bread halfway when she heard a sigh from the sitting room.

Tyler’s look alike had been there all along operating his laptop and she had never even noticed him when she was sneaking into the kitchen.

He turned on the light and grinned mischievously at her. “What of bread and Jam? It does not remind you of your husband like Irish potatoes and sauce?”.

“Who is that young man?”. Vanessa Rosales cried out to Martha.

“What do you mean? Who are you talking about?”.

“Stop the acting as if you don’t know what I am talking about?”.

“I have no idea of what you are talking about!”.

“The young man that has my boyfriend’s face, who is he?”.
