Episode 10

Iyabo's phone rings. Mid-way the Manager aborted the call.

Manager: (talking to himself) Wait ooo!! Am I in the right frame of mind. Why am I calling her? What if something happened and Mr Ojo discoverer that am the one who gave out the information. I will loose my job for breaching bank/customer confidentiality. God forbid!! Yes the woman is nice to me but that not withstanding......

Iyabo calls back but the Manager refused to pick it

At the hotel. The document is ready. And Mr Ojo decided that the three of them should take the document to the Manager.

Mr Ojo: Gentlemen, I have decided that the three us should go with the document.

Charles and Austine: Ok, no prob...

Austine: Sir, I have discover who kidnapped the lawyer's wife...

Mr Ojo: How? Who?

Austine: One of our informant just called me as we are preparing the document....

Charles:(cuts in) I remember you went out to receive a call....

Austine: Yes, that was the call.... He is one of our officers we planted to work with a notorious kidnapper we are trying to nail...

Charles: Wow!!! You have one of your men working with a kidnapper so as to get information. This is fantastic!!!! I only see this kind of operation in American movie...

Austine:(smile).... Don't let us go into that now... The most important thing is how to rescue her... I have put all machinery in place for us to tackle the situation... Had it been, the woman's phone is on, we would have known the location where she is kept..... But that not withstanding, we are working seriously on it....

Mr Ojo: Austine, I want to thank you very sincerely... Maybe when all these are over we will have plenty of time to talk. God spare us to continue to breathe...

They went to Austine car and sped away to the manager's residence...

Mr Ojo: Let's I forget, Charles tommorow morning you will go to the office and resume as the Manager. You will take along the letter terminating Kunle Arowojogbe's appointment...  He will want to come to the office tomorrow not knowing that I now knew about his escapades with Iyabo.

Charles: Alright dad...

Mr Ojo: I will give you an appointment letter duly signed by me. Let's turn back.

Austine: Why sir?

Mr Ojo: All these Wahala are seriously getting at me... I have forgotten that Kunle too, as the manager has authority to authorise some certain amount. We will present his termination letter to the Manager so that he too won't explore that loophole to take out money...

Charles: We just have to be fast about it..

They turned back and headed straight to the hotel... On their way, Mr Ojo's phone rings...

Mr Ojo: it is an  international call.... It is my lawyer..........Hello...sir... How are you.?

Mr Ojo: Am fine... Your....

Lawyer: (cuts in) My wife had been kidnapped. The kidnapper just called me. I guess they got my international number from my wife... I just want to know maybe she delivered the file before she was kidnapped...

Mr Ojo: No... Not at all... But we have discovered who the kidnapper is...

Lawyer: How? Did you know she was kidnapped?

Mr Ojo: Don't worry. We will talk about it latter........Let me give the phone to the security person..

Mr Ojo handed the phone to Austine

Austine: Hello sir... We have identified the kidnapper to be Don Esien.... He doesn't hurt or kill his victim in as much as the ransom is paid... He can keep his victim with him as long as the time the agreed ransom is paid... I know of a victim who spent close to seven months before the ransom is paid. Sir, have they demanded for ransom...?

Lawyer: Yes, they demanded for hundred million...

Austine:(cuts in) Hundred what?

Lawyer: Though, I have negotiated to twenty million. And he said he will get back to me....

Austine: Sir, you continue to talk to them. Do you have the number he use in calling you?

Lawyer: No.... I will be around tommorow... I have gotten a ticket for tomorrow morning... Thank you very much..

Austine: You are welcome sir.

The line went dead..
Mr Ojo: I hear you shouted  hundred...... Hope they are not demanding for hundred million...?

Austine: That was their initial demand. But he said, he had negotiated to twenty million but they haven't reach a conclusion yet...

Charles: What do you think we do?

Austine: Don't worry... We will rescue her alive...

At the residence of KTB. Everybody is assembled...

KTB: Gentlemen, few minutes ago, we are on the verge of becoming a billionaire. But, the operation suddenly have a little setback...

kTB has a way of getting into the psyche of his subordinates... When they heard billion, everybody started doing the maths to know what his share will be base on the agreed sharing formula....

KTB continues... He explained everything that transpired in the past few hours to them..

kTB: Hacker, you have to get the location of Iyabo and Kunle, including the lawyer's wife who holds the most important file...

KTB ask Jungle to continue and explain everybody roles...

Jungle: Now, Moor will take Intel. They will go to the Airport and await the lawyer's arrivalwho is currently out of the country. I know the by now might have contacted him and he will be coming home any moment to pay the ransome in other to free his wife...... We have gotten his picture from his Facebook account. Why do we need the lawyer? It is becauset, the moment the Lawyer meet with Iyabo's husband they can draft a new WILL. The old one will no longer be useful taken into cognizance the manner which it was lost base on the explanation of our in-house lawyer... Abi the law...

Barrister Ekun: Yes, you are right..

Jungle:(continues) So, that is why we must get the lawyer... We don't have information on the kidnapping. Therefore, Smalling and Tiger will go out and dig information on who is behind the kidnapping. If we know him, we might be lucky, he might be our person. All we need is the document. We can as well bring him in...... Sign K will join Junior at the house of Iyabo's husband... Junior told us nobody is in the house for now... That means Iyabo and Kunle did not return there after they escape from here.. Sign K and Junior will ransack the house to get any document(s) with the signature of the husband... KTB and myself will collaborate with Hacker and go after Iyabo and Kunle... Barrister Ekun will go home and await further instruction... Barrister, please make sure your phone is available. We might call you anytime...

Barrister Ekun: Ok, no problem...

KTB: I hope everybody understand clearly what they are suppose to do... Nobody must fail.... This might be our breakthrough to quit this job... I have informed Alhaji and he had accepted to buy everything provided it is perfected. And I have assured him.

They all nod in agreement and dispersed....

Iyabo and Kunle lodged in an hotel...

Iyabo: The bank Manager called me. I missed the call and I tried calling back but he didn't pick it again....

Kunle: My dear, how much do you have? Because, I was able to withdraw ten million yesterday, base on the mandate I have including everything I have been able to steal all these while... I should be having close to fifty million...

Iyabo: What are you trying to say? That we should abandon the operation and run...

Kunle: Yes, he who run from a fight livel to fight another day.,...

Iyabo: Kunle!! Kunle!! No now... You use to be strong and intelligent... That was why I chose you in the first place above every other men... Please, don't even go there... I have suffered enough... I beg you find a way out please, my dear...

She started crying...

Kunle: Alright, stop crying, I will find a way....

Iyabo:(amidst tears).... We cannot labour in vain.... We have suffered alot to forgo it.... If not for those greedy bastard...

Kunle draw her closer, started kissing her and they made love.....

The young man drop the lawyer's car at the agreed location and entered his friend's car whom he had called to come and pick him...
They got home and he dropped the file on the table.. He went to the bathroom to shower and his friend picked up the file and started reading it.... Suddenly, the friend shouted and call him to come quickly... He rushed out and say.....

Young Man: Eri, what is the problem?

Young Man: Eri, what is the problem?

Eri: Thompson, where did you get this file from?

Young Man (Thompson): I got it from our new target. She ask me to deliver it to a man. She gave me her phone to retrieve the man’s number. The phone is dead. I will have to charge it to get the number. I have charge the phone in the car. I think, it was the shock of her kidnapping that made her to forget that she has a car charger. I have charged the phone while returning the car. And I have copied the number. I left the phone in the car…. Why did you ask?

Eri: The file is a WILL. The name of the beneficiary is my Mother.

Young Man (Thompson): You don’t mean it.!!Are you saying, it is your mother that we kidnapped?

Eri: No….. The owner of the WILL is my supposed Step-father. Though, he didn’t know about me. My mother did not tell him she has a child. I met the Man twice. He is an honest, upright and a good man.

Young Man(Thompson): When you met him, did he recognized you as his step son.

Eri: I don’t think so. I just think the Man is naturally nice. If not for him where do you think my Mother will get the money to send me to a private University where we met.

Young Man (Thompson): Hmmmmm……

Eri: I know my mother. That woman is evil. She might be planning evil. Didn’t you say your Target is the wife of a lawyer and the husband is out of the country?

Thompson: Yes….

Eri: Maybe my mother had done something bad to him and the man want to re-write his WILL. I haven’t see my Mother for almost three years now. I only talk to her on phone.

Thompson: Why?…..

Eri: That Woman is evil. I don’t like the way she is treating her husband. Despite the fact that the Man loves her so much. I am a Man too and I will get married someday… Do you remember the accident I had some years back.

Thompson: Yes, I remember. You said an unknown Man who came to see the doctor at the hospital paid for the hospital bill and even donated blood when the Man who hit you couldn’t afford to pay the bill.

Eri: Yes….. You remember…. The Man came to check on me twice before I was discharged. That was my first encounter with my mother’s husband. I never knew it was him. Because, my mother did not allow me to know him….. I recognized him when I went for the interview I told you my mother told me to attend the other time…. I saw his picture hung on the wall at the manager’s office. My mother had already told me the company belongs to her husband. After the interview, while I was coming, I met the Man at the staircase going for lunch. He did not recognize me. I approached him and told him I was the young man he assisted at the hospital some years back. He hugged me and ask me what I came to do. I had to lie that I came to see a friend who work at the company.

Thompson: Why did you lie? Why did you not tell him you came for Job interview?

Eri: I made up my mind during the interview not to work there and if I should tell him I came for a job interview, Man will employ me immediately.

Thompson: Ok…. Why don’t you want to work there?

Eri: The way the manager was calling my mother by her first name without respecting her as the wife of the owner of the company make me to be suspicious that they might be dating each other…. I know my mother… Again, that Man is a nice Man and I don’t want to be part of any evil my mother is planning….

Thompson: Hmmmmm…. You have a heart of gold, man….

Eri: Do you know that Man took me to lunch that day. We launched together.

Thompson: Now, what do you want us to do?

Eri: Let me call my Mother…..

At the hotel…. After the sex, they both slept off… Iyabo was the first to wake up.

Iyabo:(thinking) What kind of bad luck is this? My husband who love me so much with all his heart… He gave me everything and anything I ask for. What exactly are my still looking for? Are mine being jinxed. Who could have jinxed me? Is it Kunle? No… I don’t think so… I am being intoxicated by love…I LOVE KUNLE…. We have both come a long way. If not for the travelling, I would have been his wife.
I remember a day before he travelled, I slept with Tunji. KUNLE knew and he forgave me. Ha!! Tunji, how did I even think of sleeping with that rogue…. Youthful exuberance….. That’s just it…. Kai…!!!! It is not good for a girl-child to be exposed to sex at a very tender age.

She stood and start pacing up and down the room. At that period Kunle had woken up…

Iyabo: (continue thinking) Ha!! Thank goodness, Tunji is not the father of my son… What explanation will I give that boy…. And the boy is damn too principled. I don’t know where he got it from…. Imagine, I have not seen him for almost three years now. He only spoke to me on phone. And he is part of why I am doing all these…..

Kunle: My sweetheart. What is the matter?

Iyabo: Dear. You are awake?

Kunle: Yes. I saw you pacing up and down. Hope no problem? What are you thinking about?

She sat on the bed.

Iyabo: My dear. You know I love you?

Kunle: I love you too… What happened?

Iyabo: I was just thinking about the present situation and the event of the week you travelled.

Kunle: A day before I travelled…. That was the day we had the best sex of our life in my room

Iyabo: Yes… We ought to continue after returning from the club. We quarrel and you left me at the club… What you did that day was wrong…

Kunle:(cuts in)…. I have apologized at the airport the following day…. Afterwards, I have apologized several times the issue comes up…

Iyabo: (she cuts in)….No my love… I am not quarrelling with you… If I had taken offence, I won’t wait for you for fourteen solid years… If not for the break in communication, I would have been your wife… I attributed the event of t that day to the amount of drink we took that day…… You know I was so drunk that I did not know how I ended up in the hotel room…

Kunle: My love. You know I love you so much… You know that singular event of you sleeping with that idiot- Tunji is enough to break the relationship…. But, you are a girl I so much cherish and love… I can do anything for you…
Please, let’s forget about the past and let us know how we are going to solve this problem…

Iyabo: Yes. But you know all this years, you did not tell me what caused the communication gap between us. That you refused to call me again…

Kunle: I was in jail… It was after I served my term that I was deported back to Nigeria…

Iyabo: Jail ke!!! What happened? You told me you have a good job back then. And you are planning for me to join you….

Kunle: Yes. You are right. You know I got a scholarship to study abroad.

Iyabo: Yes. I remember. You are the most brilliant boy back then in school among your classmates…

Kunle: After my graduation. I got a very good job… I was doing very fine. I later met a Nigerian guy who introduced me to drug. I got greedy and decided to join the group. I became a carrier who delivered the stuff to clients… The money was good. Better than the paid job I was doing. The guy told me that is how he started before he was brought into the cartel fully. It was in the process of delivering the stuff one day that I got busted by the police and i was arrested. I was arraign and sentence to jail… I lost everything I have ever laboured for…

Iyabo: How did you now meet my husband. You know all these while, I thought you guys met abroad….

Kunle: After I was deported, I couldn’t face my friends and relations including you. What will i tell them… That I came back empty handed with all the years I spent abroad… No… Not at all… The humiliation would be huge and embarrassing. I decided to stay low key. I was in the club one day when a man who was a little bit tipsy stumbled on me and splash his drinks over me… I was angry but he apologized. We became friends, meeting at the club… One day he told me he had sacked his accountant. During that period I never knew the type of work he does. We just meet at the club, drink and depart… When he told he had sacked his accountant and he is looking for a replacement. I told him straight that I am interested…. I told him I am graduate of accountancy from America…. He did told me he can’t offer me the job, that I am more like his friend. That, he won’t be able to scold me if I do anything wrong. I pleaded with him that I will behave well and respect him as my boss…. He accepted and said I should come the following day…. That was how I started working with him… After one and the half year, I was promoted to the managerial position, when the Indian guy relocated back home….

You know, it was during the dinner party organized by the company to celebrate my promotion as a manager we me met and reunited….

Iyabo: Hmmmm…. After you left, I discovered I was pregnant… I couldn’t tell you because I was afraid. I never knew who exactly impregnated me between you and Tunji…. My mother was so angry but she later accepted… After I gave birth I went back to school, did my O’level and got admission to the college of Education… After graduation, I couldn’t get a government job to teach… I started teaching at a very popular private school owned by the Methodist…. My husband being a devoted Wesleyan was invited to the school as a guest of honor at one of our end of the year party…. He approached me… At first I refused…. Hoping that you will come for me one day. But when I waited and waited, I decided to accept his proposal. His parent were not happy about our relationship. They felt I might behave like the one he divorced. But fortunately for me and unfortunately for them, they never lived to witness the aftermath…. I never loved him but he is Rich…

Kunle: My darling. Let’s leave the past. Let us talk about the future… Like I said before we went to sleep… How much do you have? We have to forgo this operation…. I know KTB. By now he will be looking for us. It won’t be long before he finds us…. We better move before he gets us…

Iyabo: Hmmmm…. Oga oooo… This is how I will just labour lost…. Anyway no problem…
Presently, I can get 100million. But I only have 80million… I will quickly go to the bank to use my mandate to get 20million more from the bank…

Kunle: Alright. 100million plus my own 50million, we could start something…. How soon can you get it….

Iyabo: It is in my personal account with another bank different from where my husband uses…

Kunle: Let’s start the talk about where to go to and start a new life….

Iyabo phone rings…

Iyabo: Hello……

Iyabo phone rings…..

Iyabo: Hello…… It’s you. How are you? What!! How come?…. Alright. No problem. I will see you tomorrow.

While she was receiving the call another call was waiting. By the time she finishes, it had dropped…

Kunle: Who was that?

She waived the question.

Iyabo: While I was receiving the call our son called…… I missed it.

Kunle: Alright….. Who was the person who called earlier?

She lied.

Iyabo: It was the bank manager….. I will see him tomorrow jare… It is late my dear, let’s go and sleep. It has been a hectic day. I am tired. Or are you not?

Kunle: I need to sleep too.

At KTB residence. The moment iyabo’s phone rings, hacker got it and immediately start work on the location. Not too long, he came to report his finding to his boss..

Hacker: Bossman, location of target found.

KTB: Where are they?

Hacker: They are at Charleston area. But I can’t get the exact location. Wether they lodged in an hotel or they are in a residential apartment, I can’t say. But I know for sure, they are in Charleston area.

Jungle: I know Charleston area very well. There are about three to four hotels there. I have lodged in one of them before.

KTB: It is late now. Very early tomorrow morning, we will swing into action. Those bastards won’t escape this time.

At Mr Ojo’ residence. Sign K and Junior had gained entrance into the building. They ransacked everything but couldn’t get any document with a signature. After about two hours search, Sign K decided it is time for them to leave..

Sign K: Junior….

Junior: Yes…

Sign K: I think we have done our best. Please let us go.

Junior: Let’s try more… You never can tell, we might get lucky.

Sign K: Alright….

They started the search again. This time slowly and meticulously. Before long they got lucky as predicted by Junior. They found a letter addressed by Mr Ojo to a CEO of a company with his signature bodly signed.

Sign K: Wow!! Thanks Junior. You saved us from coming here in vain…. This one will do the job

They left the house.

At Mr Ojo’s hotel…..

They finish with the letters and took it to the bank manager. They all return back to the hotel…

Austine: I have place two of my officers at the airport to await the arrival of the lawayer. They will pick him up as soon as he arrives…. I know KTB. He is very intelligent and brilliant. By now, his boys will be at the airport to pick up the lawyer…

Mr Ojo: How will he know the lawyer will be coming to the country?

Charles: That’s true. If he is not told, he can’t know.

Austine:(smile)…. It is because you are not criminally minded and have not deal with criminals…. Criminals are very intelligent. They think faster and always plan ahead. Our job as intelligence officer is full of instinct and sometimes imaginable and unimaginable thinking. Assuming, it is your wife that is being kidnapped and you so much love her. The kidnapper had contacted you and you were not in the country. What is the first thing you will think of.

Charles: How to get back home immediately.

Austine: Exactly!! That is what I think KTB thinks. That is how I arrive at the opinion that he knows the lawyer is coming back to the country…

Mr Ojo: What has the lawyer got to do for them?

Austine:(smile)…. A lot sir….First, the moment the lawyer is here, the document(WILL) they are trying to get is useless… You can easily draft another one with your lawyer.

Mr Ojo: Yes, that’s true

Austine: That is why picking up the lawyer by them is also dangerous…

Mr Ojo: Alright….. Good job Austine… Charles be prepared to resume to the office tommorow…

Charles: Alright dad….

At the residence of Thompson…. Eri called his mother and the call was waiting and it finally dropped…

Eri: Let me call her back… The call was waiting… It means she was on another call…

Thompson: Guy wait… Don’t call her back yet…

Eri: Why did you say, I shouldn’t call her back?

Thompson: You told me your mum is evil and criminally minded. What if she is the planning evil that made man want to get the WILL. Because our Target told me that the man needs the document urgently. And had it been she agreed to meet him that night, I won’t be able to kidnapped her. And you said earlier that, you don’t want to be part of any evil your mum is planning or want to do…

Eri: You are right… I just want to inquire from her if she knew anything about the WILL…

Thompson: If she knows and she is planning to do bad with it, do you think she will tell you? No she won’t….. Let’s reason together, so, we won’t do what we will regret tommorow..

Eri: What do you suggest we do?

Thompson: Thank you… This is my own opinion…. Let me give the WILL back to the person I am sent to give it to… He is the owner. He knows why he wants it and know what to do about it. Besides, you just told me that the man is a good man, judging by your two encounters with him…

Eri: You are right, man…

Thompson: I will call him to inform him, we want to see him…We won’t inform him about the WILL…

Eri: oh boy!!! You are a nice guy… Anyway, I am not surprised. I have known you to be a very kindhearted fellow.. You have demonstrated that several times….

Thompson: You know now, my friend… You are my friend… You know, I am not too comfortable with what my adopted father is doing. But this man, however crime or atrocity he had committed, he is also a good man… He took me off the street when nobody seems to care about me…. He sent me to school. Adopted me as a son and never for once made me to feel I don’t have parent.

Eri: But he can kill you if you messed up his operation?

Thompson: You got it wrong… I have messed up several times… And he did nothing to me… Let me tell you, he doesn’t want me to continue in his line of business… He wants me to live a decent life. I am only useful to him because he knows I am intelligent to pick victims without shedding a single blood unlike others. I don’t do it often unless, it is absolutely necessary.

Thompson picks up his phone and dialled Mr Ojo’s number..

At Mr Ojo’s hotel. His phone rings…

Mr Ojo: (talking aloud) Who could be calling me? This number is new. I have not use it to call anybody unless the lawyer’s wife and the bank manager. This is not the number I use in calling kunle.

Austine: Sir, kindly pick it up… The person might have useful information…

Mr Ojo picks the call…

Mr Ojo: Hello…. Good evening… Please, who is this?

Thompson: Good evening sir…. I will like to see you…. I have something to deliver to you…

Mr Ojo:(cuts in) Sorry youngman…. Who are you? And how did you get this number?

Thompson: Sir, with all due respect… Let’s forget about who I am and how I get this number…. Let’s arrange on how to meet and by then, you will know who I am and how i get your number…. Besides, I have something that will interest you…. If you are interested call me early tomorrow morning… Good night

Mr Ojo: Young man……

Thompson cuts off the line..

Mr Ojo: The line is dead….He said he has something that I am interested in. That I should call him early tommorow morning,if I am interested.

Charles: Austine. What is your take?

Austine: Sir. You will call him tomorrow and arrange to meet him… I will send two of my officers to go ahead us to scan the meeting place. Don’t worry….

Mr Ojo: If you say so…..
